Spring Home Décor Trends to try Right Now!
Hello to the month of May! As I am writing this, Spring has finally come to Alaska, most of the snow has melted and I am starting to see a few buds on the trees. This is such a happy and welcoming activity to watch after our long winter! I took a little hiatus from blog writing as I wrapped up some projects and prepared for my trip to High Point Market in April. High Point Market is the largest home furnishing trade show in the world, and I (and my feet) can attest to the vastness of it all. Attending this trade show is an important investment that I made to better serve my clients and is strategic for the growth I desire for my business. It is a chance for me to form great relationships with the manufactures that I work with (and discover new ones), network with other designers, attend seminars, and get an up-close look at the furnishings I will be selected for my clients. The Spring market was bustling with excitement over new products, and I wanted to share some of the trends and styles that caught my eye. And of course, I couldn’t leave you without sharing some tips on how to incorporate them into your home!
Be Bold with Color:
Warm and earthy hues, in shades of chocolate, terracotta, and green (think sage and moss), could be found on sofas, chaise lounges, ottomans, and daybeds. I love seeing essential furniture pieces in fabrics other than gray and beige, so I happily welcome this cozy hued trend! The colors evoked relaxation, comfort, and a touch of old-world grandeur to me, particularly when they were showcased in velvet fabrics. I have always gravitated toward a warm color palette in the home; it creates intimacy and people tend to linger a little longer.
If you prefer for your interiors to be a little less moody, don’t fret-bold and colorful patterns aren’t going anywhere. Patterns create vibrancy and uniqueness in a space. One of the simplest ways to incorporate some fun prints in your home is to update your accent pillows. Window treatments in eye-catching designs can tie together a rooms color palette but be prepared to spend more. Transforming a small space, such as a powder bathroom, with a beautiful wallpaper will really get your guests talking about your incredible design savvy!
Make a Statement with Texture:
Color and texture are necessary elements into creating a layered and elevated interior living space. The key textures that I saw displayed at market were Sherpa, boucle, and velvet fabrics, along with rattan, caning, and wicker furnishings. Some of these textures have been having a pretty hot moment for a while now and I don’t foresee them going out of style anytime soon (some are classic design staples).
As much as I love a nubby soft texture such as a boucle, I would suggest using this in small doses (blankets and pillows). All I could think about on every chair I sat on was how this would trap pet hair and require more maintenance than my maid (aka-me) provides! If you desire that cozy, wrapped in a blanket feel, there are some amazing velvet performance fabrics that stand up to the demands most of us put on our furniture today.
Rattan and caning are both elegant and casual and can fit into most design styles with ease. However, unless your home is a beach bungalow, you’ll want to use this texture on a spectacular piece or two-and then move on!
Show Your Love for Mother Nature:
It is no surprise at all that nature provides us with the most beautiful inspiration for our homes. From the earthy color palettes and organic forms to products that are derived from and protect our environment; we are encouraged to see and seek out the beauty in our surroundings. Flora and fauna inspired art, lighting, and décor grazed most every showroom. These art pieces make lovely accents in our homes because they can tie together or ignite color inspiration for the whole room.
One product that really caught my eye were these beautiful resin cast floral bouquets. As I was ogling over them, the artist (and teacher by day) shared with me that all the blooms are from her garden. These handcrafted works of art can be enjoyed displayed on the wall, used as a tray, and as tabletop décor.
